Still to get rid of: Burnaby, Surrey, Delta, Richmond, Abbotsford, Maple Ridge, North Van City and Langley. If you live in these places the best thing you can do for animals is to get a group together and lobby your mayor and council to stop contracting with the SPCA to dispose of dogs. How can anything that is watched and controlled by the voters be worse than a contractor answerable to no one?

And our all-time favourite: the man who was given a trap by the Coquitlam SPCA and was told if he caught a raccoon to just fill the bathtub and lower the cage into it, because that is what they will do if it is brought to them.

All the current SPCA pound employees who say they love animals (like the sweetheart quoted above) will be delighted to get jobs at the new humane shelters that are going to replace the SPCA holes... or at least they should be. In fact, so many of them insist that they hate killing animals and they hate the management of the pound contracting arm of the SPCA for running such holes, that you'd think they would be appearing at council meetings urging municipalities to stop contracting with the SPCA , instead of surreptitiously trying to stop the SPCA from getting out of pound contracting and trying to stop municipalities from cancelling contracts.

Some of these old dogs WON'T learn new tricks, but some will and they will make good shelter employees.
