To be absolutely clear, I am NOT hell-bent on destroying the SPCA

Too many people are bandying about Mr Daniell's accusation that I am "hell-bent on destroying the SPCA".

I am determined to make the SPCA reform, not hell-bent on destroying it. A destroyed SPCA is counter to my goal. My goal is to make the SPCA honest so that it will have to honestly prevent cruelty and honestly do animal welfare.

If Mr Daniell has twisted all my thousands of written and spoken words, then Mr Daniell must look to himself to find his problem. Not once have I said that I want the SPCA destroyed. I have said what I want countless times - an honest SPCA.

When Mr Daniell and I met at my home in February 2003 I told him this:

* That I did not want the SPCA to self-destruct;

* That I did not expect the SPCA to be able to complete the reform process in under five years, perhaps even ten years, because of the danger of financial ruin if changes were made too quickly and because of the union's stranglehold;

* That getting out of the corrupting pound contracting business was paramount or no real honesty and change was possible;

* That I did not expect the SPCA to tell the whole truth about its vile and fraudulent history - because that might result in a serious loss of donations and that would be counter to my goal of a strong SPCA. (To this end I suppressed some recent incidents where the SPCA behaved so badly that knowledge of those events would have done a great deal of damage);

* But that I did expect the SPCA to start to practice honesty from this point forward - because that was the only way I could trust it to do the job that I and no one else could do - honest prevention of cruelty and honest animal welfare for every animal in BC.

I asked first and foremost for honesty and what did the SPCA do?
