Medicine Hat Mall Tiger Exploitation *LINK* *PIC*

Today I went to the Medicine Hat Mall to protest the exploitation of the tiger which was on it's cross-country tour through Canadian Malls. My husband and I went with handouts asking people to take action and make sure they got in contact with the managers of the Medicine Hat Mall, asking them to let them know that they were opposed to exploiting any exotic animal. We passed them out to bystanders watching the tiger pacing back and forth, back and forth. I confronted the man and his son selling the pictures of tigers with children and asked him how much of the money actually goes towards helping the tigers and their plight. He said that he takes all of the profits and some it goes towards feeding the tiger. I asked some very basic questions and he got very angry and loud. He said that this was how he made his livelihood. Pitiful and disgusting way to make a living isn't it? He told me that he was calling mall security, and I told him I'd be back tomorrow with more handouts. This is the year of 2005 and I can't believe that we still have tigers in cages for children who wouldn't have any other way of seeing a tiger. What about TV? What about the internet? There are many ways to see tigers without exploiting them. I will go to any lengths possible to make sure this man doesn't come to Medicine Hat again. I will go to any lengths to make sure that my local mall doesn't hire this man and his business again. Medicine Hat is probably the last place this guy thought would have any problems. He tells people that he is "educating them by telling them not to buy tigers for pets". He is not telling people what he is really doing, which is using the tiger to make MONEY. Please, make sure you make a difference and speak out against this kind of cruelty. I plan on writing a letter to the editor of our local paper, getting in touch with our city clerk about changing or creating a bylaw which prohibits performances of animals, writing to Mall Management and passing out handouts. It is important to speak on behalf of the animals.
