We have to agree...but...

"Ninety-nine per cent of what they do is come in and learn how to clean the cages and they don't learn all these other skills....The Surrey locale, on 152 St. near 67 Ave., is the province's only animal learning centre for young people...As well, Naherniac wants to get further into the community doing things such as setting up public displays centred on an animal issue like pet identification or spaying and neutering...."These kids have learned lots about small animal care ... we want to take that learning and bring it into the schools and community,"

Perhaps the reporter left out something important? Reporters often do. But as far as we can tell from this article, the SPCA wants kids all over BC to learn about identification and spaying and neutering.

Those are important of course, but will it stop teaching kids by example that it is okay to keep animals in cages? This article doesn't say.

It is morally indefensible to keep any living thing confined. To do so for food is bad enough, but to do so for amusement is diabolically cruel. That is what the SPCA teaches children.

We welcome the SPCA to provide our readers with more information on its new education programs.
