Georgia Straight, March 29/01: "Pay range revealed"

"The Straight recently obtained a copy from Canada Customs and Revenue Agency of the list of the five most highly compensated managers at the Vancouver Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for 1999. It showed that the highest paid executive was paid in excess of $150,000, and four others collected between $70,000 and $89,999. Douglas Hooper is the executive director, but the forms didn't reveal which individual collected the highest salary.
Vancouver SPCA spokesperson Lorie Chortyk denied that anyone earns over $150,000 and said that one individual earns between $130,000 and $149,000. Chortyk also claimed that there is "full disclosure" about salaries to members and donors. She refused to disclose who earned the top salary to the Straight, citing privacy considerations."
