Who needs a lawyer when the SPCA is doing the job itself?

After putting out over $30,000 of money that could have been spent on animal rescue and welfare, AAS no longer needs a lawyer. The SPCA is blowing itself up. What we have been saying for two years, that SPCA seizures are illegal and unlawful, is now being said in court and in the media. Seizures are only the latest way the SPCA has been using animals for self-enrichment. AAS can prove at least 50 years of it.

The SPCA will have spent a like amount or even more. Whereas AAS is using my money - the equity in my home - so that we don't steal from our rescued dogs, the SPCA is taking money from animals to viciously pursue this personal vendetta against me. Just like crooked politicians, the SPCA is spending other people's money, except that it is animals' money the SPCA is spending to bully, intimidate, and try to silence AAS.

The SPCA has quite the racket going. It seizes healthy animals, sickening many, killing many, selling many, returning many on payment of huge sums of money.

The PCA Act was written with the real interests of animals in mind. The drafters knew that almost every animal is best left in familiar surroundings, and the owner made to correct any "offence" on site. The SPCA's own Manual confirms this. The drafters also knew, and again, the Manual confirms this, that most animal neglect is not deliberate, but the result of ignorance, poverty, and cultural differences. But there are no "heroic" seizures to stage for the media, that attract thousands of dollars in donations, when animals are quietly left where they are and owners made to improve conditions.

Vets all over BC are enraged at what they see - the SPCA seizing and abusing animals to enrich itself. Lawyers all over BC are seeing that the SPCA is abusing people to enrich itself. Soon the courts are going to understand this too. Seizures of healthy animals without a warrant , gag orders so that victims can't tell their stories to the media, animals neglected by the SPCA and then money demanded for their return anyway.

The only time the Act allows the SPCA to seize animals is if the owners cannot or will not correct the offence. And even then, it does not have to criminalize the owners in court. The only time the SPCA can seize an animal without a warrant is if it is so near death that it would be inhumane not to immediately kill it.

AAS is systematically collecting documents, video, photos, and accounts of SPCA seizures which we will have a lawyer present to the government. Why are we doing this? Because it must be done to stop the SPCA from its long career of ruthlessly using animals to enrich itself. As long as the current Board and Executive control the BC SPCA, it cannot ever be trusted to do honest animal protection. That was AAS's goal ten years ago, and sadly, things have got worse.

The current CEO promoted career animal disposers who for decades had been employed by its Dog Disposal Contracting division to kill unsellable animals. He also hired wannabe cops. This was doomed to destroy the SPCA, and frankly, thanks to the Board and Executive, it has not taken long. What a shame. For a long time, we (naively) believed that the Board would see what was going on and would fire the Executive, but we no longer have any hope for the Board either.

The SPCA has been caught lying in court. This is not news to AAS or any of the SPCA's many victims. We want the SPCA to exist, but it may not.
