I lived with a dog who spent the first 4 years of her life isolated in a backyard

Wow, very well said; I don't think I could write better words myself. I lived with a dog who spent the first 4 years of her life isolated in a backyard. She was terrible with other dogs, and had severe separation anxiety -- both of these conditions are classic cases caused by being isolated in a yard. She was a German shepherd/Belgian shepherd cross; I'm sure the result of a backyard breeder. Unfortunately it tends to be these bigger breeds who need socialization the most, and who should be the 'last' dogs to ever be left alone, and yet sadly they often are.
She was certainly a danger to other dogs, and I had to be extremely vigilant to make sure she would not come into contact with other dogs. I shudder to think of others who might have had her and not been as careful as I was throughout the rest of her life. She was from the city pound.
I watched Dr. Ian Dunbar's video on Dog Bites, and he states in his video, 'It is the unsocialized dog living amongst us that is far more dangerous than his cousin, the wild wolf.' As a mother, a teacher of young children, and a dog owner, I fully support a ban on yard dogs. It is incredibly dangerous.
I am amazed the city has not been sued yet by a citizen who has been hurt by a dog.

A question of public enthusiasm: Is there support for a Yard Dog ban?

Two years later it still makes me sad to think of him on that day
