After several years of isolation Brutus panicked and lashed out at me, the person who was trying to help him *LINK*

I cannot tell you what happened to the owners of the dogs that attacked Shenica White. However, I can tell you that her mother works at the surgery center I attend for my surgeries and that she, Shenica, is still undergoing painful surgeries this many years later, as am I. I have not met her mother but have been told by co-workers that Shenica has many more surgeries to come.

When I visit again next month for my 9th surgery since trying to help an injured guard dog almost two years ago I will pass along a message to Shenica that she is thought of often and has not been forgotten.

If you are interested I can tell you what has happened to the owners of the dog that broke both my arms, my left wrist, scarred me for life as well as disabled me forcing me to leave a job I loved more than anything...his business is thriving and being well protected by two Rottweilers now. Brutus, the dog that injured me and was put to sleep after doing so, had a new female companion living with him just before he died. She was young and had just started 'guarding' as she was not wanted by a staff member or family friend (can't remember which) so the business took her to live in their yard with Brutus. Brutus was also a nice, young dog once I'm sure. Anyway, after several years of isolation Brutus panicked and lashed out at me, the person who was trying to help him, when removed from his comfortable surroundings. Brutus is now dead and has been replaced by another young, friendly male Rottie. I think the new dog was there before I even left the hospital or Brutus' body was disposed of...I wonder how long it will take these two dogs to become as terrified of the world as Brutus was? I hope that OJ, Brutus' replacement, never gets off the property again when he is no longer friendly.
Shortly after OJ arrived he found his way out of the compound. I know this because I was in a car being driven down the road he was wondering and the person I was with called the SPCA to report the dog being out. This time I didn't stop to help the dog as both my arms were broken and I wasn't feeling up to transporting another guard dog for some reason...Don't worry though, the SPCA found OJ and picked him up after he had been roaming the streets for a few hours. And yes, he was returned to his rightful owners once they paid the impound fee and purchased a municipal dog licence. He was also returned the second time he was found wandering the industrial park by the SPCA. Both time he was returned with nothing more than a feeble warning and the minimal impound fees paid. The SPCA warned the business that he may hurt someone as Brutus did and they should be more careful, check the fence for holes, find out where he is getting out and repair the area. It was a good thing Brutus never found OJ's escape route, or perhaps he was too scared of the outside world to look for a way out of the only place he knew.
I don't think OJ has been out since, but, I no longer work there, as I mentioned before, so I don't really know.
It is good to know that the property these dogs guard is safe though. I hope these dogs do not suffer the emotional trauma that Brutus did spending their lives this way.
Thank you Ali for such an insightful view of guard dogs.
