Dear sweet Woody, he should have been a grumpy old man, but he wasn't

I have had the privilege of going to Barb & Yves farm with my daughter many times. My ten year old's eyes lit up the first time we went there and saw the horses as she had never been this close to a horse before.

Dear sweet Woody, he should have been a grumpy old man, but he wasn't. He would stand with great patience and let my daughter brush him. He was so gentle, patient and kind with her. She even got to sit on his back once, and even though his days of giving rides were over, he didn't complain.

Thank you Woody for sparking a love of horses in my daughter, who now wants to learn to ride, and thank you for making her first experience with horses a good one.

When I told Barb that my kitten had died she said something to me that I won't forget, "At least he died knowing that he mattered."

Barb, when you took Woody in, when no one else would, he knew that he mattered. When you chopped up his food every day because he had trouble eating, he knew that he mattered. When you cleaned his sore feet and lay with him in the barn, he knew he mattered. He died knowing that he mattered, and more importantly, knowing that you mattered to him.
