PETA is much criticised for some of its tactics, but what other group is able to penetrate the secrecy of experimental laboratories like PETA does?
The routine day-to-day cruelty inflicted on the Covance monkeys makes one ask a lot of questions about the human race and our propensity for inflicting cruelty and torture on other species and our own species. I know that only a minority inflicts cruelty, but what can we do to stop horrors like this? The labs have been picketed, hundreds of thousands of letters have been written, we are informed about what is going on, but labs just continue on their merry way. Often experiments are repetitive, but laboratories continue to generate a lot of funding, a lot of it through government grants- in other words, we pay for things like this.
