The Lone Wolf….

As I watch through golden eyes, the pack ventures from mountain to meadow and I sit aside and grieve. For I am not welcomed.

I hear, in the dark as they join in a companion chorus, but my response is ignored, for I am truly not one of them.

They are my family, yet I am separate and apart, not encouraged to belong, not supported in my need.

In the cold I am cast aside because I am not as vocal, as aggressive nor as dominant as my brother’s and sister’s.

In the desire to survive must I bend to the leader, or accept a rank that has been awarded to me, or do I simply survive as the Lone Wolf?

Though I am independent there is a survival requirement for belongingness, acceptance and safety within my genes, for life as the Lone Wolf is void of playfulness, companionship and comfort.

Please think of the Lone Wolf the next time a poster promotes exclusion or bullying. For one day, you may also find yourself alone.
