Re: Vernon SPCA capitalizes from puppymill pet sto

Yes, the mills that supply this store are in the North Okanagan. When Tom Bishop was manager of Vernon SPCA he was alerted to one mill in particular that sells to this pet shop. This mill is in Salmon Arm SPCA's jurisdiction, but Bishop told the complainant that "if it gets really bad" he would "see what I (he) could do". Nothing was done. All the SPCA branches here in the Okanagan know about these mills, many have paid visits, many times. Nothing is done. Okanagan Animal Welfare Foundation is petitioning in the North Okanagan for control of breeding bylaws- there has never been any such initiative on the part of the SPCA to either enforce the existing laws or improve on them. The SPCA is saying they are "moving forward in a new direction", but instead of asking for stronger laws they are publically supporting perpetrators of animal cruelty by holding a fundraiser at a pet shop that sells puppy mill products- 3 of them for sale in the store that day no less!
I don't know if the SPCA has ever inquired of the pet store where it gets its pups. Pet stores are very deceitful when asked, and there is no paper trail as the ones up here don't sell any CKC registered pups.
