Big Heart Rescue is pleased to announce that our organization has been granted permission by the Heiltsuk Band in Bella Bella to conduct a three day vaccination and sterilization clinic for companion animals on September 23, 24 and 25th, 2005.

With a volunteer vet, technicians, board members and volunteers we anticipate a minimum of 30 spays and neuters and 80 companions vaccinated during this time frame. Each animal will also receive parasite control, de-worming, antibiotics and minor medical treatment as needed.

Big Heart will be supplying each pet seen with a Bella Bella license tag to ensure they are safe from being labelled as a stray and subject to being killed by means of a shot from an RCMP's gun. Additionally, collars, BHR tags with contact information, leashes, bowls, food and educational material will be provided in order to support a healthier lifestyle for companions in this isolated community.

Our goal is to reduce deadly diseases such as Parvo and Distemper, eliminate unwanted litters of puppies and promote humane education by providing information to school aged children of Bella Bella.

To ensure continued success in eliminating diseases we anticipate supplying vaccines to a nurse living in Bella Bella who will vaccinate any new litters born after BHR has returned home.
