Re: Animals in Performance bylaw in Burnaby
Dear Mayor Drummond and Councillors,
As a resident of Burnaby, I am extremely concerned about the event that occurred August 3 -5th at Brentwood Mall. They permitted the commercial use of a live tiger and a lynx, which I find to be both inhumane and dangerous.
I would like to see Burnaby's 'Animal in Performance' bylaw be improved in
order to prevent the exploitation of animals in performance. Although they claim this is not a 'wild animal', it is still inhumane to take an animal like this out of its natural habitat and bring it to a mall to be displayed.
I also find it quite disturbing that petting zoos are still legal in Burnaby.
It would be great if you could replace your current bylaw with the District of North Vancouver's bylaw. Please put this matter on your Council agenda in the near future.
Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Linda Rosenblatt
