Subject: Prince Rupert branch--cruelty to crabs
To B.C. SPCA Head Office:
I am writing to express my shock at a fundraiser to be held later this month by the Prince Rupert branch of the SPCA. It appears that cruelty to crabs is not considered cruelty at all by those at the helm of the Prince Rupert chapter. Why are some species exempt from the umbrella of compassion? It has long bothered me that some SPCA fundraisers have taken the form of hot dog sales and BBQs, with no empathy for the living beings who have been sacrificed for human palates...but a crab feast? Boiled alive? Is torture in the mandate of some SPCA branches?
I believe that you have some work to do in terms of educating all who are connected with your organization regarding some very basic principles. Preventing cruelty to animals means exactly that. No animals are meant to be boiled alive for human consumption or any other reason.
I await your prompt response to my concerns.
Yours truly,
