I saw this documentary on CBC last night, or rather, the second half. I turned it on just when a cocker spaniel was turned in because it had attacked another dog. This was an unneutered 2 year old that had been passed from home to home. The people turning him in said he was great with kids and they were sorry to see him go. Sue advised them to find a neutered dog next time. Why didn't she advise them to neuter this one and get some training?? Sue was with the dog for a few minutes and as soon as the people left she told the camera she was certain this was a biting dog. She just decided out of the blue that it had to be put down for dominance aggression. That made me ill. When she told the other shelter staff they questioned the quick decision and decided maybe they should hold on to him awhile before deciding. One person there said she needed proof that a dog was a bad dog. I guess that means Sue doesn't? Then we see Sue roughly clipping the ears of the cocker that we'd been told are completely infected?!? Was she trying to get a bite? Then a week later they show her poking and prodding and harassing the dog with the Assess-a-hand while it's eating. No big surprise the dog went for it. She continues to harass the dog and it continues to attack while she videotapes it and carries on about it being the worst case of agression she's ever seen. She shows the video tape to the other shelter worker who questioned the decision and she accepted the tape as proof the dog was bad. It was horrible! Why not neuter the dog, keep in it in the shelter and teach it appropriate behaviour? As she's taking the dog in to die she tearfully tells us about all the dog bites that happen each day to children and how horrible the results are. I guess that doesn't apply to bites from Jessy the Basset Hound she had on her site. He was there as an owner turn in because he guards his food and can't be adopted to a home with children under 12. She also tells us she believes most of these dogs just want food. They aren't attached to people so given their choice, they'd take a nice piece of greasy meat over petting and loving. So why would she harass a dog that has been from home to home while it's eating? Surely she knows the dog is more interested in its food than in her, and yet that's the reason she has it killed. Of course, we saw just a few minutes before in the documentary her immediate decision to put it down due to dominance aggression. Just before she kills it she does hand feed it chicken mcnuggets so she knows that works.

I felt literally sick watching what she was doing.
