How does that make it any better?

How does that make it any better? The fact is that seized dogs are in more distress than many dogs voluntarily put in the SPCA. Most seized dogs come from breeders or puppy mills which means they are smaller dogs. Check out your SPCA it is filled with Rotties, Shepherds, Pit Bulls and other various large dogs. How many of those breeds are even fostered out at any time I would like to know? It is extremely stressful for small breed dogs that have been crated in horrific conditions for the only purpose of breeding to be further subjected to trauma by having to stay in cages at the SPCA. This is just more smoke and mirrors and lawyerese.

The bottom line is that the SPCA handled the Chilliwack case poorly. The staff at the SPCA stated over and over again to us that the chances of the dogs being returned to Karen Raffles were slim to none. We were told over and over that the fostering could take up to two years because the SPCA was taking her to court. None of us lived under the illusion that we would keep the dogs, especially me, I already have too many dogs but we thought we would love them back to health for a good family. When we first contacted the BCSPCA for some answers on the case we were verbally abused by Ms. Drever. Then when she started backstepping in the press about the condition of the dogs, we could not believe what we were hearing, it just made us more head-strong. Maybe if we had been treated with a degree of respect from the get-go instead of Ms. Drever yelling at one of the fosters then hanging up, this would have taking different direction but the SPCA's lack of care and concerned for the dogs, and then for us, just opened up a Pandora's Box.

To the SPCA, I say train your staff better, tell them to state the facts not fantasy. The objective of this battle is to protect animals who have been seized. Explain to me how stopping the fostering of seized dogs helps in any way. Tim Kenna came to my door and asked if I would continue to foster, I said yes.

I say to the SPCA, bring the seized puppies to my house. I will foster them and I will return them gladly when you have followed all the right steps to ensuring the safety of these tortured and abused animals for the rest of their lives.

The SPCA likes to play with words...they say that they had no choice but to return Raffles' dogs. I say the PCA Act gave you the option of refusing to return them. That is the whole point of your existence... to be the champion of animals, not a warehouse with a rotating door, a bottomless money pit and a pet store mentality.

I told both Craig Daniell and Tim Kenna that I would be a good girl and stop bashing them, but every time one of them opens their mouths to spew their propaganda it just infuriates me more.

They keep trying justify everything when the bottom line is that the dogs should not have been returned no matter what. All the fosters involved in this case were in shock that these dogs were being returned. We looked after them we know how bad shape they were in. Every single hot day of this sweltering summer I woke up with those dogs on my mind, feeling I had failed them, knowing they were locked up in some small cage in that heat. I failed them, the system failed them.

I understand the BCSPCA has it's limitations....if there was ever a time for the BCSPCA to acknowledge it flaws and failures in the protection of animals it is now.

I say to the BCSPCA - challenge those limitations and do what is right because the tide is turning against you.

Sunshine Coast SPCA suspends fostering program because of "controversy" around the return of seized puppymill dogs *LINK* *PIC*
Mr Daniell's response
I was struck by several inconsistencies in the tales spun by the BCSPCA
Which is it gentlemen?
I would like to confirm that these dogs were not in good shape when we received them
This is a prime example, where the end definitely does not justify the means.
Clarification: only fostering of seized dogs has been suspended we have been told
How does that make it any better?
