Yes, the dog had food, water, shelter, but it had been chained to a washing machine for two years

Our small spay and neuter Society in Victoria received a call from a woman who mentioned her dog was crying, not eating and generally seemed very sick. I asked a few more questions and agreed to help her.

Our Society paid for a vet to make a housecall as something did not seem right with this call and the gut feeling I had was right.

The veterinarian found that the dog is almost constantly chained to a washing machine. The owner gave the reason that its claws scratch the hardwood floor.

The veternarian strongly suggested to the owner that she surrender the dog to our Society. The owner agreed as long as the SPCA were not to be involved. It seems that the SPCA had come twice to check on the dog (after neighbours had complained) without offering any assistance and the woman was quite annoyed with the SPCA as a result.

The little dog has since been fostered by a very gentle and caring foster mom and dad who took the time to housetrain her, socialize her and with their help we will choose a new and loving home for her.
