If the BC SPCA is going to advertise its concern perhaps it should consider how it looks when it shows absolutely none

Yesterday, Nov.27, 2003, the spay and neuter society I volunteer with and another small foundation had the opportunity to help a woman safely place her two cats so she could enter a transition house. We provided the funding for vaccines ( so the two cats she owns can be boarded) and a sympathetic vet has agreed to provide two weeks of free board...but this is just the beginning of helping this victim and the victim in question was told by the Victoria SPCA that they could not help in any reasonable fashion.

The Victoria SPCA was only able to offer the euthansia of her two cats if she brought them to the Victoria facility as they are full. This further abused this woman who is already in crisis in my opinion and I am personally appalled she would have been treated in such a totally uncaring fashion.

The brochures (not sure if they are even in Victoria yet) are destined I am sure for a rack on the wall which will also offer little comfort or support.

Like I said in my previous post on this subject, the victims who require the services of a transition house require ACTION .

The small non-profit I volunteer with do what we can when we receive a phone call asking for help but we have to pay full veterinary fees and unless we can find a sympathetic vet, full boarding rates too or scramble for a foster home.

This is hardly a complete supportive policy as many fall through the gaping cracks I am sure. BUT, and this is a big but it is an ACTION step while
"Addressing the Link Between Family Violence and Animal Cruelty", the BC SPCA's latest p.r. puff piece, does nothing to help the victims but a lot to help itself.

If the BC SPCA is going to advertise its concern perhaps it should consider how it looks when it shows absolutely none.

An excellent start SPCA: The only part missing is the ACTION step
