The union crippled the spay/neuter clinic in Victoria

The union crippled the spay/neuter clinic in Victoria to the point it had to close by refusing to work hard enough to enable it break even. When the clinic first opened an average day would mean 12-14 animals spayed and neutered. Union staff over the years found reasons to cut back the number done per day by restricting what each employee would do and refusing to compromise so by the time the clinic was closed an average day could be 4-6 spays and neuters and this coupled with the restrictions applied to vaccinations and booking times for the actual surgeries and vaccinations ensured the clinic would lose money.

Many SPCA union employees in Victoria, in my opinion, have no interest in the animals and thank goodness there are dedicated volunteers to take care of the animals. Many union employees refuse to do one little bit more than their contract says even if not exercising a dog may mean it will be euthanised for behaviour caused by inertia and boredom and no socializing. Some union employees appear to target animals by trying to steer adoptive people away from them for no concrete reason (other than the employee is not partial to the breed or feels that their favorite dogs deserve the homes more) and these same union employees have been known to be rude and negligent in their dealings with the public resulting in animals suffering longer and unnecessarily in some cases. Many union employees also have on more than one occasion insulted people needing help with spaying and neutering their animals. Rather than encouraging them they have been berated for being irresponsible owners and for being poor.

Not all union employees are bad but many hide behind the union while they behave abysmally with the animals and the animals owners.

To survive, in my opinion, the SPCA and the Union both have to put the animals and the well-being of the animals first...to behave as they are is nothing less than self-serving and contemptible.
