Re: SURREY SPCA ON FILLING IN ASSESSMENT FORMS

Dear Editor,

I read with interest the article regarding the Surrey s.p.c.a. and their
complaint that they have to now fill out an 11 page paper should they want
to put an animal down due to the new moratorium on killing adoptable pets.

Honestly, I say, 'cry me a river'. Why hasn't the s.p.c.a. implemented a
control of breeding by-law? Why don't people who want to breed have to
obtain a license from the s.p.c.a. and they have to fill out an 11 page
paper as to why they want to breed, and then get a license breed number
that by law must be listed anytime someone wants to advertise and make
money off of pups for sale? (Has the s.p.c.a. seen how long the list is for
dogs for sale in any given newspaper?)
The way it stands now where anyone can breed, anyone can buy it is no
wonder the s.p.c.a. is so filled with unwanted animals. I have volunteered
at shelters and have seen the multitude of reasons that people give their
animals up. This includes, "I just bought new carpets and don't want him
to dirty them," "I don't think he likes us anymore," and the most often
used reasons, divorce, new baby and moving.
It doesn't take Einstein to figure out how badly domestic animals need some
kind of laws in place to control all this breeding, so why hasn't the
s.p.c.a. figured this out? I say, get your act together and really do
something for the animals out there.
