The SPCA can kill for temperament

A friend in the interior told me she heard a tv newstory from
one of the SPCA's in the interior (I think it was the Kamloops one), in
which the SPCA spokesperson talked about the importance of pet owners
socializing their pets because IF the animal is not properly socialized AND
eventually ends up in their shelter (for whatever reasons), the animal may
be euthanized because it has behavioral problems. If this is indeed
true, 1) the SPCA killing animals for "medical reasons" is a total load of
crap, 2) their use of "temperament" can now be used as an easy out which
will enable them to justify euthanizing, perhaps for space? Who would ever
know?

It sounds like the SPCA is saying that if they have to euthanize an animal
because of behavioral problems it's not the SPCA's fault but the fault of
the pet owner. Here's just one of a hundred scenarios: For whatever reason,
an elderly person has little choice but to surrender their dog to the SPCA
in the hopes the SPCA will help to find a loving home for it. The dog is 10
years old and healthy, however it hasn't been around children much. The SPCA
can't (or shouldn't) kill it simply because it's 10 years old and very few
people want to adopt an older dog, so instead they justify killing it based
on behavioral problems because the dog is scared around noisy children.
