Here is another recent incident where a dog was beaten to death on the head and left tied in the woods to die. In this case the BCSPCA has no clue who did this, how they did it, or why. But, it sure sounds hell bent on using its resources to find out and go after those responsible. Compare this case to the Great Dane shooting where the SPCA knows exactly who did it, and why, and yet is doing absolutely nothing about it.
March 30, 2004. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. The BC SPCA is seeking the public's help in solving a case involving a female Blue Heeler dog found beaten and tied to a log on the Norrish Creek (Forest Service) Road in Mission last week. A necropsy ordered by the SPCA indicates that the deceased dog, who appears to be 6 to 8 years of age, experienced massive trauma and hemorrhaging to the rear of her skull, likely caused by a severe blow to the left side of her head. The dog was found tied to a log at the side of the forestry road with no clues to her identify.
Senior Animal Protection Officer Eileen Drever says the SPCA is hoping someone will recognize the description of the dog and may have some information about where she came from or what happened in the case. "At this point we're investigating all the possibilities," she says. "Someone may have brought the dog to the isolated area to kill her, or it may be a dispute of some kind in which someone else hurt the dog for revenge." She says the SPCA is even wondering if the owner of the dog tied her up and is lost somewhere in the surrounding bush.
It makes me wonder if the SPCA is really investigating this case for an already dead dog where it has no leads, or whether it says so because it sounds good to the public. After all, even when the SPCA has all of the facts right under its nose, as it does in the Great Dane shooting case, it still doesn't follow through with any investigation or charges.
