2004 BC SPCA AGM Has Come and Gone, and Still No Audited Financial Statements

The BC SPCA's annual general meeting was held today, and the Society has still not presented the audited financial statements it has been promising for so long. It fact, it had promised them again for today.

Why are there still no audited statements? The excuses are varied. President Rick Sargent said today that there is "one outstanding item preventing auditors from signing off on the statements", while Acting Chief Financial officer Andrew Williams said that the Society hadn't "provided sufficient data for the auditors to approve the financials." Williams said that it became apparent over a week ago that the audited statement wouldn't be ready, and that although he had tried his best to make it happen, there is still data that isn't organized for the auditors.

And Treasurer Howard Gray indicated that he was not prepared to endorse the current auditor.

In a nutshell, President Rick summed it up: "So we don't have a formal presentation of the financial statements."

It's no wonder the government is beginning to take a closer look at this "anomaly", the BC SPCA.
