The RCMP is buying coyote fur for some of their new parkas

The RCMP is buying coyote fur for some of their new parkas.

For many years, Fur-Bearer Defenders and a growing number of Canadians have been urging the RCMP to find another material to replace its official winter uniform muskrat hats, to help end this trapping cruelty. Their answer for decades now is "no suitable material has been found".

Now we have learned of a "new-inclement parka" which uses a strip of coyote fur around the hoods to be issued "to our members who are facing extreme cold weather," says Supt. Guy Rochette.

The main trapping method for muskrats and for coyotes is still the leghold trap, known throughout the world for its cruelty.

Again, the only answer from the RCMP is "there's no acceptable alternative material to replace the fur used in our winter garments".

So much for their concern about unnecessary cruelty.

Yours truly,

George V. Clements
