Yukon Quest cheerleaders CBC Yukon receiving unwelcome email? *LINK*

Hi all and thanks as always for helping to 'howl' for the dogs. I noticed that one of my sentences in the Georgia Straight comments trailed off, but I have largely been running on adrenaline lately, and got up early to respond to the article before going to work. The annual Quest hoopla happens to coincide with the busiest time of the year in my 'day job.'

'Liberal media' sources like the Georgia Straight willingly buy into this dog mushing exploitation/propaganda as has PBS in the past [ http://www.kats-korner.com/animals/iditarod.html ], and as our own CBC continues to do to this day.

It appears to me that CBC Yukon has been receiving communications from people who are concerned about the organization's role as head Quest media cheerleader (although CBC would never admit publicly that they are receiving flak about their dirty deeds in supporting the Quest on public airwaves).

It appears that this year these 'cowardly yellow journalists who promote sled dog cruelty' are turning up the volume hoping to drown out dissent, but cracks are beginning to appear in their armour.

Yesterday (Friday) morning, the CBC Yukon radio morning show people had an interview with Quest veterinarian Vern Starks. One of the listeners had sent an email in regard to media reports of dogs suffering from frostbite and wanted more information. The actual email was not read so it was unclear whether the email was in the form of a simple question or a question such as "how can you knuckleheads at CBC support a race that inflicts suffering and death on dogs?"

The morning show host (to my great surprise, as she is known to be a rabid Quest supporter) asked about the musher who was disqualified early in this year's race for 'poor dog treatment.' Veterinarian Starks refused to give details about the reason for the disqualification, i.e. - was the musher caught beating his dog team? The CBC gal did not pursue the question.

I would urge people in the South to listen to CBC Yukon on the net to hear the shameless promotion of the Quest provided by CBC. The prime listening time is between 6:10 and 8:30 AM weekdays, and 6:10 and 9:00 AM on weekends.

CBC also makes 'blood money' off a DVD 'documentary' [The Lone Trail: the dogs and drivers of the Yukon Quest] which is sold from the Yukon Quest website:

In the 'documentary,' CBC used 'creative editing' techniques to ricicule a lone, young (23-year old) local activist (one of my heroes) who publicly spoke up against the Quest in 2003. I went to meet this young person who told me that his parents raised him from an early age to pulicly speak up against injustice whenever he encountered it.

Please keep the pressure on CBC in order to stop them from using your tax dollars to promote Yukon Quest sled dog cruelty.

Thanks again to all of you.
