I volunteered briefly at the SPCA and I don't believe they even understand what animal welfare even is. I never heard anyone talking about how to make a dog better so that it would get a good home...even the testers didn't seem to know a thing about what makes dogs tick. I knew a lot more than any of them did just from owing two dogs in my life. Most of them seemed really afraid of dogs and just anxious to tick off the boxes and get the test over with and decide if a dog died or lived another day. But look where they were living!! No wonder so many passed the test and then after being locked up for weeks, lost it and bit another dog out of fear and confusion and then got put to sleep because of that! The indifference was too much for me...I didn't last long. I now help to trap feral cats for another group where there is no killing like at the SPCA and where I feel I am doing what matches my principles. We are really making a difference for these cats, not just sweeping the problem of abandoned cats under the carpet by killing them all.
