That said, you are critical of us because we never compliment the SPCA. Please tell us in detail about the "good stuff" it does. We try to compliment the SPCA, but it is so rare that we are able to find any examples of honest animal welfare that we can praise it for. I initially complimented the SPCA when it hired Craig Daniell and he expressed interest in cracking down on puppy mills. I did more than compliment him on this messageboard, I gave him all my investigative work on puppy mills I had been tracking in the Okanagan for years, mills that I had reported over and over to the SPCA, mills that the SPCA consistently told me it could do nothing about. I complimented the SPCA when it seized dogs from these mills AND I offered to rehabilitate and pay all the bills for any difficult ones. Guess what? My offer was ignored, and the SPCA started to kill the dogs. Innocent little blind terrified puppy mill dogs. It was killing them at the same time as it was using their pictures to ask for money. This is only one of literally hundreds of examples I can give as to why I am unable to praise the SPCA. This messageboard is full of our firsthand experiences with the SPCA, not, as you call it, "gossip".
Thanks to our criticisms we have forced a bit of reform within the SPCA. We have forced it to stop killing animals for cash. We have forced it to stop employing people who breed and mutilate animals on the side. We may be forcing it towards more pre-sales sterilization, but it is hard to know, as there is so much secrecy around SPCA policies and actions. Oh, and after over one hundred years, it has finally been forced to produce audited financial statements. So THAT'S good, don't you think?
But please, we would love to hear the details about the "good stuff" that you are aware of the SPCA doing.
