I saw dogs tied out in the heat, no water, tangled in tethers at the Williams Lake SPCA

The last time I was at the Williams Lake Shelter I was less than impressed with what I witnessed. Dogs were tied outside in the heat with over-turned water bowls and some had themselves so tangled on their ties that they only had 2 feet to move. There was no staff there to ensure the animals safety and if there was they ignored the sound of my car horn and my phone calls from outside. You are right... a fenced yard or run is much better than this however it is not ideal. This is not what I would call 'Good work' that the SPCA has done.
I had a problem and I tried to deal with it myself. I sent e-mails when I returned about what I had witnessed and got no response whatsoever. I am disappointed that an SPCA would house animals in the same manner they are supposed to protect them from! This is not ensuring the dogs social, physical, and emotional needs.

Leaving a dog in a yard all day is definitely not in the best interest of the animal. You would not leave a child unattended in a bath tub would you? Dogs are at risk being alone as a toddler is. There are so many dangers that could happen while you are at work. Neighbourhood children taunting them, escaping and being harmed by traffic or getting lost, eating something they shouldn't etc etc. Not to mention the behaviours that may develop like digging, barking, and chewing due to boredom.

I would like to know if the Williams Lake SPCA has stopped tethering dogs as a means of housing?

I look forward to visiting the Williams Lake SPCA this summer and seeing all the improvements if any.

How could one possibly misinterpret this statement: "Can you meet his or hers Physical, Emotional + Social needs? (Fenced yard or Dog Run)"
Williams Lake SPCA web page *PIC*
Please tell us in detail about the "good stuff" it does

Your Williams Lake SPCA sold Erin, unspayed, who had pups and then was brought back to be sold again *PIC*
Thanks to the SPCA's critics, some improvements have been made:"I'd even clean the tavern toilets for money before I'd accept a job that requires...
then you'de know what's really going on!
The SPCA is not a retail buisness... or is it?
There is no point in me replying to this
This employee is a symptom of SPCA malaise
I have spoken with or attempted to speak with SPCA CAC members, branch staff, branch managers, Head Office staff, Directors, and the President of the BCSPCA
What does Animal Advocates do?
I wouldn't leave my home and leave my children outdoors in the most securely fenced area
I continue to not "get it" when people say leaving a dog in a yard all day is a not a bad thing
How could the SPCA not figure out this basic, basic stuff?
And just what does AAS have against people who kill dogs for a living anyway?

I received an answer from Bob Busch Operations Manager (in charge of the branches)
So, Mr. Busch says the Williams Lake SPCA doesn't condone outside dogs... *LINK*
Stupid e-mail disclaimers?
Re: your comment about tests to decide which dogs are to die!
Those tests that "we" hate so much meant a death sentence for two puppymill dogs in May, 2003 *PIC*
No one would listen so I posted publicly on AAS. Voila...the SPCA listened *PIC*
