The SPCA did not threaten to sue Ms. Dawson, they did sue her

Dear Animal Advocates,

The SPCA did not threaten to sue Ms. Dawson, they did sue her. At the time and to my knowledge there still exists a suit from Ms Dawson against the SPCA for nuisance damages for barking dogs; as part of the defence the SPCA brought a defamation action against Ms. Dawson for the comments in this letter. I was the SPCA representative that was examined under oath by Ms Dawson's lawyer in November of 2003. I don't think anything has come of the action since by either party. This information is all public knowledge and Ms. Dawson would have the transcripts of my testimony if anyone is interested.

I believe what is more interesting was the letter sent by SPCA President Micheal Steven in reply that was published December 12, 2003 in the same paper. Mr. Steven stated, among other things, that "not a single penny of funds held by the Victoria branch has been spent elsewhere by the provincial Society"!

As we all know, every cent of Victoria's money has been spent by the Provincial Society, most of it elsewhere. Mr Stevens didn't know that at the time because the Board was not recieving proper financial information from its "professional" staff.

A challenge to the SPCA Board of Directors
Should this case go all the way to trial it would cost the SPCA $300,000 plus and the defendants $150,000 plus
The SLAPP happy BC SPCA - $100,000 and counting?

The SPCA did not threaten to sue Ms. Dawson, they did sue her
The SPCA..."Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals" needs to live up to its name
The idea is generally not to let the case go to court but to drain resources and effort from the financially weaker party *LINK*
What are SLAPP suits? *LINK*
BC did have anti-SLAPP legislation until the Liberals got rid of it
Dysfunctional then, dysfunctional now
I attended a meeting in Victoria around the same time
It is because of this lawsuit that I have not donated in the past few months
Lawyers don't need the money as much as animals do! I know, my husband is a lawyer
I ask that the revenues you have be spent on what the donors expect, the animals.
I would like to see more coverage in the media about this ongoing issue
Shame on you SPCA! Live up to your name!
Do something for chained dogs and your critics will turn into your greatest supporters of all
Thankfully God has given a heart for animals to many like WWF, Service Dogs, AAS, and the courage to individuals to speak out
I can't understand why a Society with the means to do so doesn't use its funds to take care of the animals, rather than target other animal groups
