AAS has made its statement on this many times:
"Defenders of these breeds of dogs accuse AAS of being anti-dog. We are anti-dangerous breeds of dogs, not of individual dogs that may make a bite-mistake once in a while. For the love of dogs, we don't want so many of them to live short, brutish lives, to be killed by pounds after they have destroyed, or tried to destroy, a human life. We don't want them to be chained, isolated, lonely, depressed, angry, crated, penned or muzzled. We don't want to hear anymore stories of young males picking up their Pit bull by its chain and slamming it into a wall to make it "dangerous". We don't want to have to go photograph a poor Pit bull, chained in yard, and know that we can't rescue it because it might be highly dangerous. We don't want to be told anymore about the fights held on reserves and how the bloody bodies of the users are left to die or thrown in the river. For the love of dogs, we want this abuse to stop. And for the love of children, we want children to be safe from fatal attacks."

Self-serving drives breed defending just as it drives every wrong thing in the world. Breed banning is driven by compassion for victims: Breed defending is driven by owners, breeders, trainers, behaviourists, by "rescuers", and by the paid disposers of the wrecked dogs, pounds and SPCAs.

Real compassion embraces real solutions. Real dog lovers, with no self-interest to protect, are not afraid to say that dog breeding must have limitations. The proof that those who defend any and all breeding are self-serving is shown when you ask them if they would object to 500 lb dogs? They can't answer without revealing the illogic of their position.

The silence after the question reveals that we all draw a line somewhere, AAS only draws it now, not when there are 500 lb manstoppers in our midst and in our pounds.

Those who are against the breed banning of any dogs, and that, per se means they are against the breeding of 100lb Pit Bulls and monster protection breed dogs, are not being honest or logical if they would ban dogs once they reach a certain size.

Reason will prevail, but probably not until millions more dogs suffer short, brutish lives and are killed in pounds, and until hundreds more children are slowly torn to death.
