MacLean's Magazine: The argument that "nice" breeds bite too

Dog trainers defend their anti-banning positions by recounting how many Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels, etc are brought to them for behaviour modification because they have bitten. The answer to that is that the type of person who owns a Golden, Lab, or a Cocker is much more likely to bring their dog to a trainer if it has behaviour problems, rather than do nothing, or take it to a pound, than is the owner of a Pit Bull. Pit Bull owners typically do nothing at all after their dog has bitten. Many are blatantly pleased their dog has attacked, and impositions of muzzling and confining requirements are ignored by the average Pit Bull owner. And when the average Pit Bull owner is finished with their dog, and can't find anyone to take it off their hands, they dump their dog in a pound or SPCA. Not so with most owners of Goldens, Labs, and Cockers.
