BC SPCA still lacks elementary ethics

The lack of ethics displayed by Gore and Bischoff is so blatant that it must be questioned if there is any hope for an ethical BC SPCA when one of its own Directors blithely admits in a newspaper to the false heroics of such a self-centred act as "rescuing" a kitten from the Katrina storm in the U.S. when the BC SPCA permits the killing of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of cats a year and Bischoff's and Gore's own branch just killed 90 cats, many of them kittens, on the grounds that some of them got sick at the SPCA. The moral black hole is big enough to swallow a truck, but the SPCA does still does not seem to understand what the plain ethics of animal welfare are though it's had over 100 years to figure them out.

Bischoff was responsible for refusing offers by volunteers to rehabilitate some puppymill dogs and for choosing which small, frightened, dogs were killed, on trumped-up "scientific" grounds, by the Kamloops SPCA in 2003 (See story below: KAMLOOPS SPCA "RESCUES" FOR THE MEDIA AND THEN KILLS THE RESCUED BEHIND CLOSED DOORS).

Bischoff was rewarded by being made a Director of the BC SPCA with Kamloops one of her branches. In May of this year, Bischoff's branch, managed by Jennifer Gore, who was Manager when the puppymill dogs were killed, was again in the news, blithely justifying the killing of the 90 helpless cats - literally helpless, as the SPCA did not help them. Instead, Bischoff announced in the papers that the SPCA was holding a party to paint the cat room and Gore said of the mass killing, "We didn’t have a lot of choice".

The SPCA has always had a choice and it has chosen to take in as much free product as possible and kill what gets sick or doesn't sell. One of the cats that Gore and Bischoff had killed had been recently brought in as a stray. "By Tuesday a.m. when the owner went to get the cat, the branch was in quarantine and her cat was euthanized along with the rest. This cat had had all its vaccines and was healthy. This is gross! What was the criteria for who got killed? This cat was a plain jane cat. Is that why it died? Maybe it wasn't very desirable and so it got the needle" reported Arlene Kempton of Kamloops.
