My background is Icelandic. Iceland is a nation that still kills whales. You might ask, "How do you feel about this?"
I watched the natives of Western Washington murder the whale that would bring back their cultural identity, return them to the dignity they possessed in the good old days. I watched and experienced a more than palpable sensation in my spine and head: a revulsion that turned to nausea and disgust. I abhorred it. The great return to the cultural past apparently did not concomitantly occur, as the natives left the body on the beach for conservation people to remove.
Iceland thinks that it is entitled to continue to murder whales. I condemn that attitude and I condemn any nation and any individual that tolerates it. The killing of any living being is murder.
Cruelty, suffering and murder that have become acculturated must be eradicated from this planet , if this planet is to survive.
It might be of interest to note that only humans practise cruelty, inflict suffering and murder.
