Snooks endured 'brutal death'

Re: "Dog euthanized after attack," Wednesday, June 29.

I am extremely unhappy with the comments made by Andrea McDonald, acting manager of the Coquitlam Animal Shelter.

My dog was viciously attacked by my neighbour's pit bull. I believe McDonald tried to trivialize the fact that I said my neighbour's dog was a pit bull.

She also states my neighbour's dog was leashed. The leash was a skinny plastic leash, and when the dog decided to attack, it only took seconds for the dog to escape.

If McDonald would have investigated this incident further, she would have realized the dog was indeed a pit bull and that it had been enrolled in behavioural classes for the past two years due to its overly aggressive behaviour towards small dogs.

I have to say the owners of the pit bull were very remorseful, but, in my opinion, were unaware of their dog's strength.

My only hope is, in the future, people will be held accountable for their vicious dogs.

I am not trying to attack the pit bull breed, only to convey that all vicious dogs must be contained in a proper manner.

No one should have to go through such a horrible incident with their family pet.

Snooks was a beautiful little dog that should not have had to endure a brutal death.

I don't think that those of us who walk their non-aggressive dogs should always be in constant fear of being attacked by a vicious dog
