Re: Homeless cats find respite from Katrina in B.C.
Dear Editor:
I am appalled at the publicity being given the homeless cats being brought to Vancouver by the group "Action for Animals".
Why?
It is not that I do not wish the best for the cats stranded in the aftermath of Katrina but rather because there are so many in Vancouver and Victoria that are also homeless and in need.
Trying to reunite cats so far from home will be very difficult and expensive as well.
Due to the difficulty of matching owners with lost cats I expect most will be rehomed here, effectively taking resources and homes away from the cats and kittens in Vancouver and Victoria.
The number of homes available is never enough and the euthanization rates at the pounds and SPCA's all over the Province of BC will prove just that.
Is this a noble deed by "Action for Animals"?
Personally I think not.
I hope your newspapers also do a follow-up article with all the Cat Rescues in Victoria and Vancouver and discover how discouraging the cat over-population problem is in both Victoria and Vancouver and urge your readers to adopt or help a stray or abandoned cat or kitten.
Without your readers support many of these local animals will be killed due to lack of homes and resources.
