At the top of the pile of clutter on my desk is an article from the Cowichan Valley Citizen, titled, Cat Rescue needs rescuing.
Cowichan, like everywhere else, had the usual influx of kittens this season.
Unfortunately, many of them had upper respiratory illness and ringworm, making them "unadoptable" until they were past that tiny kitten age - the age when it is (unfortunately) the easiest to find them homes.
To quote from the article, "The result of all this is that there are many beautiful, playful, healthy and very well socialized kittens whose futures are now in grave doubt."
This article brought in some donations, but no offers of adoption (some have been adopted since).
Where were the people who are lining up for cats from New Orleans when this article came out?
We have a huge cat over population problem, right here and now, and bringing cats from out of the country means that a similar number of local cats will remain homeless, or be euthanized.
