Aldergrove: SPCA seize flock of animals

Dogs and other animals were taken from an Aldergrove farm.

At least 22 dogs, two goats, two cats, a parrot, a tortoise and three fish were seized from an Aldergrove farm last Friday.

"The animals were taken into custody because of malnourishment, unclean living conditions, lack of adequate water and medical issues," the B.C. SPCA said in a press release issued earlier this week.

Animal protection officers executed a warrant on the property, noting the same individual had previously been involved in another investigation in which 17 dogs, 15 sheep and one horse were voluntarily surrendered to the SPCA.

"Our officers had been monitoring the situation and had issued orders to the owner to deal with several concerns related to the feeding, care and health of the animals," said Eileen Drever, the agency's senior animal protection officer.

"The owner failed to comply with orders that were issued and the conditions deteriorated instead of improving," she added in the release.

The animals seized Friday included 13 rottweilers (seven puppies and six adults), five German shepherds, two border collies, one Airedale and one Presa Canario.

The animals are now living in SPCA shelters and private facilities while the investigation continues.

SPCA also seized reptiles from an Abbotsford home last week.
