Animal welfare: Trapped animals die in agony

Dear Editor,

I was shocked to discover a family community like the Township of Langley still uses lethal traps to manage so-called nuisance beavers [Trapped in the wilderness, Aug. 29 Opinion, Langley Advance].

Conibear traps, the executioners of choice, are indiscriminate killers that sentence our national animal to a slow and agonizing death. There are also countless reports of the traps squeezing and killing family pets and injuring children, and many communitites have already adopted safe and humane methods of beaver management, which makes me wonder why some community leaders still endorse such medieval methods.
