Animal Advocates Watchdog

Looking closely at these statistics

I was just playing with these statistics last night, which brings the true horror of these numbers into focus.

I have just dealt with cats, who are such a wonderful species of animal, as they seem to be considered so expendable. The dog figures are also appalling.

Not all numbers could be used as there are quite a few missing statistics. These numbers were just taken from complete submissions.

127 454 cats were taken in. 114 780 were euthanized. Only 11 776 were rehomed.

In other words, if a cat lands in a facility in North Carolina, the unfortunate cat's chance of being euthanized is over 90%. Remember each one of these animals is a living breathing creature who just needs an opportunity to enjoy a good life. The chances of the cat finding a new home are 9%, less that one in ten.

HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO SCREAM "SPAY-NEUTER"?

It is great to know that so many rescue groups and BC SPCA branches are making a big effort to spay/neuter animals before rehoming them.
