After witnessing the horrible attack at Kit's Point this past Saturday by a Pitbull on a 12 year old Bouvier & a West Highland Terrier I have become very concerned about this breed & mostly about the owners of these dogs. I am a huge lover of all breeds of dogs. I have no predudice against any breed. Having my own dog, a Golden Lab Retriever, my love for dogs, all dogs has grown.My family & friends think I'm a bit nuts but I get so much from them, they make me laugh, give me comfort, alleviate loneliness & it gives me someone to care for. After this incident on Saturday, seeing that helpless beautiful dog with it's leg ripped off,broken bones & flesh lying on the street, trying to stand up with a look so sad, she seemed to say "why me, why did I deserve this violent behavior?" The woman who owned Ellianne & Hadley, was an older lady, a widow. We followed her to the Vet where both of her beloved "girls" as she called them were in the emergency. I can't get the image out of my head of Phillis's face, she was devestated. She just couln't understand how a 6 month old, 30 lb. dog could hurt her big dog so badly. Ellianne did not have a chance. It was deceided that it would be best to put her down. I cried. I cried most of the day.Phylis said to us "why did she have to go out in such an awful way after having such a good life? So what do we do? I do not want all Pitbulls euthanized, I do feel the person makes the dog but, the advocates of Pitbulls need to take thier heads out of the sand. Sure other breeds are agressive to other dogs but you can bet,if you hear about a vicious attack by a dog on another dog or a human, it's usually a Pitbull. As stated by the expert on Pitbulls, they are agressive towards other dogs doesn't make it acceptable. When we have criminals with a propensity for violence, we keep them in jail. So what do we do about this breed? I do not have the answer. Another point. After all this the only punishment the dog & owner were given was a fine for having the dog off leash and a banishment from the City of Vancouver
