Re: 15 primates seized in raid, Vanc Sun
I understand that Craig Daniell has a reputation for getting things done. He has two challenges right here in the Nanaimo area - the suffering sheep of Cedar and the appalling dog hanging case, also in the Cedar area. I wish him well in his new job. I hope that he lives up to expectations. I think that we will see many improvements in investigations, which will be invaluable to our animals. If people know that laws are really enforced in a meaningful way, they will be much more careful to care for their animals properly. The recent animal seizure is really good news.
There may be problems relocating the seized primates. There are no primate sanctuaries in Canada that I know of. I know that Dr. McGreal of the Internatonal Primate Protection League has suitable facilities for the marmosets, but the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta has really strict rules about imports of primates. I have contacted friends in the primate field to see if they know of any suitable homes here in Canada.
