CJOB Reports On Steinbach Dog Catcher
June 30, 2009 by admin

CJOB’s Richard Cloutier had this to report today. “It’s a country house 5 minutes outside of Steinbach. The dog catcher has a series of outdoor cages. On this trip I found four dogs in his back yard cages. Adjacent to those cages, an old house trailer where the cats run in and out.

Cloutier - “How long have these dogs been here?”

Dog Catcher - “Oh, some have been here over a week.”

Cloutier - “So what happens to them”

Dog Catcher - “Oh, evenually I just find country homes for them or put them down.”

Cloutier - “And how do you put them down?”

Dog Catcher - “With a gun shot”

Cloutier - “You shoot them?”

Dog Catcher - “Mhmm”

Cloutier - “Do you take them out back? You do it here? Where do…?”

Dog Catcher - “Right here.”

If you have lost your cat or dog, your first step should be to call John Klassen the Steinbach Dog Catcher at 326-3118. Then absolutely, give us a call. Put posters up and ask surrounding neighbors if they have seen your pet. As well, be sure to contact the local vet offices to see if your pet has been injured and brought to them.

If you would like to be proactive about this issue, contact mayor Chris Goertzen at City Hall. This matter must be resolved asap.
