Re: Feral Cat Program

I read with dismay that your organization has full intention of withdrawing from the supported Feral Cat Program that has been in operation since 2001. Your company was one of very few that recognized the need for intervention with feral cats in your area and became extremely co-operative and proactive in assisting Cowichan Cat Rescue to put services in place for these needy animals.

You have now removed the only source of food and nourishment these animals have become dependent upon and have sentenced these helpless creatures to additional suffering, pregnancy, starvation and disease.

The Cowichan Cat Rescue group has worked diligently to spay and neuter these cats and have vastly improved the quality of life for many of them. Do you realize that in seven years, a cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 kittens. This fact can be found on the SPCA's website http://www.spca.bc.ca/animalsense/FallWinter2002/CoverFallWinter2002.htm

I strongly encourage you to review the cancellation of this program and to once again become true leaders by example!

I am looking forward to your response,

Gail Moerkerken
