AAS HARD-HITTING ADS ARE GOING TO FORCE THE BC SPCA TO STOP THE CRUELTY OF CHAINING DOGS!
(ads are listed below)

The problem of chained and neglected yard dogs has reached staggering proportions in B.C. but nowhere is it worse than in the City of Vancouver. The SPCA has ignored these profoundly suffering isolated and neglected dogs for decades, never asking for any laws to abolish this, turning their backs on the suffering of thousands of them. Dog abusers in BC have inflicted their cruelty on dogs with impunity because the BC SPCA always said there was nothing unlawful, even when the shelter was a leafless tree, even when the food and water was fouled with feces.

In June 2001 AAS presented the City and the SPCA with our report "IT'S TIME!" on neglected dogs in Vancouver that contained research and expert opinion on the physical and psychological suffering that neglected yard dogs suffer. Our report was called "magnificent" by Ingrid Newkirk, founder and president of PETA.

AAS requested the City to adopt bylaws to ban this. To date, June 14, 2003, the City and the SPCA have done nothing.

The SPCA received a copy of the Report in June 2001 and has made no acknowledgement to AAS nor has it urged the City to adopt Humane Standards of Care of Dogs bylaws.

AAS is not ever going to stop fighting for these dogs. Due to our diligence in documenting their suffering, preparing reports, and running expensive ads out of our tiny budget, we have forced the monolithic BC SPCA to address this problem. Without AAS there was no hope for these dogs. Thanks to AAS, chaining dogs in BC is going to end, because we won't stop fighting until it does.

Starting in 1995, with our tiny budget, we have run many ads the Sun and the Province, the Vancouver Courier, Ming Pao Daily and the Korean Times.

If you want to really make your money speak for animals you can run one of our ads in your local paper. We can send your paper the ad in a pdf file.

Do you know of a dog that is suffering the way AAS has shown in its ads and in its reports? Please tell us. And copy an ad and send it to the owners. You just might help a suffering dog.
