I too heard the ad for the first time yesterday and it is almost beyond belief. A woman's droning voice names all the negative things about cats...dead mice, throwing up, scratching the funiture, ignoring you (didn't hear the full list) and then a chirpy male voice says if you're not a cat person to get a dog from the SPCA.

It only needed the male to say (chirpily), if you hate your cat, bring it to the SPCA, we'll kill it for you, and give you a dog in trade.

What does this ad say about the "new direction" the SPCA claims it is taking? For one thing, there is nothing new about SPCA ads being sales pitches, not education about animal welfare issues (as Diane so cogently points out).

For another, it casts very serious doubts on the intelligence of the people who are making decisions at the SPCA and the credibility of a board that would permit this ad to run for so long.
