I didn't see this little spaniel's face too closely, but she appeared to be quite bright, though obviously disoriented and stressed. So I can't say about any discharge and crusting like what Dot had. (Dot's post above. All I noticed about the poor cocker spaniel was her obese body, her grey muzzle, and her horrible elephant-skinned rear end and enlarged vulva, which caused me to believe she was older than the SPCA had said. I also think she was someone's old breeding dog, as was Dot, and since they were both strays, perhaps they were dumped by the same breeder. Who knows?
I don't know why the SPCA killed her and let rescue take Dot. It's all a crapshoot with the SPCA. And I don't believe that any dog there had distemper. I believe that the Surrey SPCA had a bout of kennel cough go 'round amidst a batch of dogs who were ill, neglected, and thrifty to begin with, and the end result was a handful of already sick and stressed dogs made worse by kennel cough.
I am angry at the SPCA, of course, but I am angry with myself for believing anyone at any SPCA. A poor sweet obese breeding dog with a grey muzzle and bad skin before she was made sick and then killed by the SPCA.
