SPCA P.R. grandstanding about help for feral cats

From the SPCA web site and Animal Sense Magazine, Spring 2004

EVERY YEAR THOUSANDS OF CATS IN B.C. ARE cruelly abandoned and forced to fend for themselves in our communities. These unsterilized cats reproduce rapidly, creating generations of wild – or feral – cats who gather in colonies in both rural and urban areas.

The SPCA Hospital, in conjunction with volunteer veterinarians and staff from clinics around the Lower Mainland, recently held a free spay/neuter day for groups and individuals who provide volunteer care and feeding of feral cat colonies.

Throughout the day, cats were brought in for medical examinations, vaccinations, identification tattoos and spaying and neutering.

All services were provided free of charge by the SPCA. The event was a huge success and the hospital is planning another clinic soon.

Hospital staff have also prepared a how-to manual for communities interested in hosting a similar clinic in their area.

It is about time the public knew what our S.P.C.A. doesn't do
Nineteen cats? Once a year? The smallest of real rescue Societies do better than that
The SPCA is unwilling to work with us in any way - although they tell the public they work with rescue groups
