The SPCA is unwilling to work with us in any way - although they tell the public they work with rescue groups

As a volunteer for a cat rescue group, we have been told on a number of occasions that the SPCA will not take feral cats. Our rescue group has been called by the SPCA several times when ferals have "slipped through the cracks" and been taken in by SPCA employees who didn't realize the cat was feral. On one occasion, we were told about a feral that had to be picked up right away or it would be euthanized. While this cat was being picked up, an SPCA employee urged one of our volunteers to take another kitten she felt was feral. Although the volunteer knew the kitten was not feral, she took her as she felt if she didn't this innocent kitten would be put down. Ended up this kitten had distemper and died, along with 10 of our feral kittens/cats we had in our tiny shelter - including the feral cat that was picked up from the SPCA. The vet bills were outrageous but the SPCA was unwilling to help in any way. Emotionally it was devastating to lose so many so quickly.

We have tried to work with the SPCA regarding a low cost spay/neuter for cats. The over-population problem obviously is getting out of control! They are unwilling to work with us in any way - although they tell the public they work with rescue groups. We receive no funding whatsoever - it comes out of our pockets and every cent that is spent is well worth it. We do it because we love animals and not for media attention!!

SPCA P.R. grandstanding about help for feral cats
It is about time the public knew what our S.P.C.A. doesn't do
Nineteen cats? Once a year? The smallest of real rescue Societies do better than that
