SPCA Cat Rooms Are Falling Apart

The Nanaimo and District SPCA's cat rooms are in dire need of repair. Leaky roofs and rotten wood in the outside runs, holes in the and peeling paint on the inside demand some attention.

A group of volunteers has come forward to make some changes. If you would like to help with your expertise, donated building materials or a cash donation, contact the SPCA at 758-8444.

Two rooms will be turned into three making space for special needs cats or perhaps a geriatric cat room as the population of older cats is growing.

The outside runs will be torn down and rebuilt bigger and better. "Rather than just move our wonderful adult cats around the shelter during the construction we would like to see them in wonderful forever homes.

September is a great month to adopt. After the summer holidays things are getting back to normal and a wonderful cat companion will fit right in," says Lorrain Chiorando, shelter manager. "We have young cats, playful and outgoing, some a little more mature, who appreciate a quieter home and seniors, whose only goal it is to find a warm lap to cuddle on."

During September the SPCA is offering special adoption prices for adult cats. To preview the cats visit www.spca.bc/nanaimo or meet them in person at 2200 Labieux Rd. For more information call 758-8444.

Poor SPCA! It only has money for its salaries and retreats, and vehicles and lawyers
